Biography
Prof Kevin McConway works on applications of statistics in biological and medical sciences, and on the representation of ideas of risk and uncertainty. He is also interested in the presentation of in formation on statistics and risk in the media, and comments on such matters through the Science Media Centre and other routes.  

For several years he was involved with an BBC/Open University co-production, 'More or Less', a current affairs programme about numbers, broadcast on BBC Radio 4. Since his retirement from his full-time Open University post in January 2016, his formal connection with the programme has ended.  



Research

  • Applications of statistics in biological and medical sciences, particularly in plant ecology and evolution.  
  • Representation of risk and uncertainty, particularly health risks, in the media.  
  • Personal-level measurement of socio-economic deprivation in health care contexts.
